Job Description:

About 10xLabs

10xLabs is a student-run venture studio for founders who are looking to build the next innovative startup at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Through 10xLabs, we’re looking at things a bit differently. We believe that we need to address the gaps of student entrepreneurship through a new approach. Our focus at 10xLabs is to convert talented & experienced individuals into successful startup founders by:

  • Spending a lot of time on ideation: We don’t fall in love with the ideas we generate unless they are viable from an economic/scalability perspective.
  • Spending a lot of time on testing: Market research is not enough, we focus on testing every hypothesis we have about the idea before writing any line of code.
  • Working with 3 to 4 founders per semester: This allows us to give the best resources to our founders and ensure that we are as involved as they are in the discovery phase.
  • Offering great resources to our founders: Need to build a quick landing page? To design some UI/UX prototypes? To design a 3D prototype? Our in-house core team is there for you.
What’s in it for you?
  • An amazing opportunity to get exposed to how startup ideas are tested and validated.
  • An opportunity to join a founder after they leave the studio if you like their idea.
  • An opportunity to apply what you’ve learned so far on real-life cases.
  • A great networking opportunity with founders, accelerators, and VCs.

Responsibilities:

  • User Research and Analysis: You will conduct research with student entrepreneurs to understand the target audience, their needs, preferences, and pain points. This includes creating user personas, conducting surveys and interviews, and analyzing user behavior to inform design decisions.
  • Design Conceptualization: You will translate research insights into innovative design concepts. This involves brainstorming and ideating to create design solutions that are not only visually appealing but also meet the users’ needs effectively.
  • Wireframing and Prototyping: You will help us create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to visualize the design concepts. Student entrepreneurs will use these wireframes to engage in further customer discovery & product design.
  • Brand Identity: You will develop the brand identity of the studio and its projects. This involves creating designs that not only look great but also communicate the brand’s story and values effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Creative approach to designing user interfaces and an eye for details.
  • Experience with design on Figma and other tools.
  • Able to understand user needs through user research and interviews.
  • Able to understand product requirements and convert them into tangible concepts.
